Howdy Howard 24July07
It has been busy since last I wrote. We were moved into a new area that hadn’t seen US presence n a few months. It was a tough fight to take control of the area and my Company lost 5 Soldiers and over 25 wounded in action before we rooted out Al Qaeda in this Muhalla. Things now have settled down and we are able to start fixing roads, electricity and water for the people here. Progress on a small scale anyways.
I am really looking forward to getting back home and getting in some coyote hunting with my oldest boy.
Take care and best wishes

Letter and Photos From Rick Spry, Howard, CO
(Rick is Stationed in Irak)

Wanted to say hello to all the folks back home there in Howard and share just a couple of pics from the area here. I have been serving in Iraq this time for 7 months and seems I will be here for another 8 or so. 2 missed christmas holidays in a row there in Howard for me
I patrol an area south of Baghdad known as Al Doura. You might have heard it a few times in national news as we have had many suicide car and truck bombers here on a regular basis and it sees its fair share of action. But that is just the stuff that gets back to you probably.
Dont realy know about the rest of Iraq- but the area I work in has about 50% of the violence it used to when we got here. Shops opened that were closed- people sweep streets that used to just be dumping grounds for trash- kids are going back to school. Everwhere you look, there are small signs of improvement in the dailey lives of Iraqi's.
Best wishes to all back home
