We took these pictures about 7:30AM on Tuesday morning as we were getting ready to turn into the Country Bounty Restaurant for breakfast. We had made a trip from Phoenix, AZ to Salida to try to impress my mother-in-law (who is from Maine), with a piece of land we had purchased in Howard for our retirement in a few years. As we waited to turn into the restaurant, we saw a police car coming towards us with its lights flashing. It was then we noticed the “culprits” the police car was “chasing” over 30 Antelope were coming eastbound towards us, on Route 50 We waited in the turning lane and as the Antelope approached, they stopped and looked at us, and then decided to turn right in front of us, into the Hot springs pool across the street, “I assume, for a quick dip” They then changed their minds and headed back down Route 50 the opposite way, with the police car in close pursuit. Needless to say, my mother-in-law was very impressed with the parade that was set up just for her!!
When we went into the Country Bounty Restaurant for breakfast, we talked to the wonderful people who worked there, and they said, “The only thing missing was a sleigh and Santa Clause”. We asked if this was a normal occurrence in Salida, and according to one person who had been here 26 years, he had never seen such a sight. So, I wanted to thank the town of Salida for giving such a wonderful gift to my mother-in-law!!
